OUR EVENTS

Launching Night
Our Opening Night officially launched MSAC’s year with an interactive Q&A session and networking opportunity, bringing together students, faculty, and industry in a welcoming space.
We were honoured to host David Nguyen, Data Analyst at PwC, for a live discussion on career pathways in analytics. We also welcomed Professor George Athanasopoulos, alongside our Advisory Board members Jessica Leung and Charanjit Kaur, whose guidance and support strengthen MSAC’s academic and research direction.

Data Visualization Workshop
Data Visualisation Night is one of MSAC’s signature events, designed to help students strengthen their ability to communicate insights through data.
We were joined by Shannon Waller from RSL Victoria, who demonstrated how basic Power BI skills can be applied to build effective dashboards and support real-world decision-making. Students explored practical techniques, asked questions, and gained insight into how data visualisation transforms raw information into actionable impact.

How to Write Research Paper Workshop
This internal session, conducted for MSAC members and committees within the Research Program Division, was led by Vincent Vu, a PhD student at Monash University. The workshop focused on equipping participants with practical guidance on writing a research paper, including structuring content, developing clear arguments, and presenting findings effectively.
The workshop covered key aspects such as organising ideas, developing clear arguments, and effectively presenting research findings. Drawing from his academic experience, Vincent also shared practical tips and common pitfalls to avoid, providing participants with clearer direction as they progress in writing a research paper.

Company Visit to NAB
MSAC held a company visit to National Australia Bank (NAB), featuring panelists Mark Morelande, Clinton Hayes, Dr. Craig Savage, Nathan Bacchetti, and Bob Zhou. The visit gave members the opportunity to gain industry insights, network with professionals, and learn more about how statistics and analytics are applied in their roles within the banking and financial services sector.
Members also had the chance to explore different career pathways through the panelists’ experiences, gaining a clearer understanding of the skills, knowledge, and mindset valued in the industry. The session helped bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world practice, allowing members to see how their studies in statistics, analytics, and business can be applied across professional roles at NAB.
